Portage Motorcycle Accident Fatality

I read a tragic Michigan motorycle accident story today that resulted in the death of a Michigan bike.  A 76-year-old biker was killed in a Portage Motorcycle Accident on June 1 at the intersection of Oakland Drive and Schuring Road. According to police, the biker was thrown from his bike over another vehicle when a car driven by a Kalamazoo man, travelling south on Oakland, allegedly struck him. The biker was rushed to Borgess Medical Center with serious injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead.

I am very sorry to hear that this tragic motorycle accident happened. My condolences go out to the family and friends of the biker.

Because this motorcycle accident involved contact with another motor vehicle, the biker would have been eligible for Michigan No-Fault Insurance benefits.  These benefits provide for payment of medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care services, and other benefits.  Family members may also may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits.  This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition to these claims, the surviving family members may be entitled to file a Michigan Wrongful Death Lawsuit against the negligent driver and the owner of the vehicle.  This may depend on the results of the police investigation and who the police attribute fault to in the accident.

For a complete explanation of the rights of injured bikers in Michigan, you should request our FREE BOOK, “The Ultimate Michigan Motorcycle Accident Handbook.” Furthermore, the surviving family members may have a claim against the driver of the motor vehicle for wrongful death of the bikers. The no-fault insurance laws are complex and confusing and it is imperative that the injury victims and their family members contact a Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer as soon as possible so that the claims process can be started.  There are strict deadlines for filing claims and submitting bills and if not met, the insurance company may be legally entitled to refuse payment for these claims.

Kalamazoo County Drunk Driving Accident Injures Biker

Michigan motorcycle accidents seem to get reported almost daily once the warm weather in Michigan.  Most of these motorcycle accidents are caused by negligent motorists and truck drivers who ignore the rights of bikers on our roads.  In many cases, Michigan motoryclists are injured due to drunk drivers.

A 21-year-old Mattawan biker was injured in a Kalamazoo County Drunk Driving Accident in Texas Township on Monday, June 1.  According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff, the biker was travelling westbound on Third street when a pick up truck, driven by a Kalamazoo man, allegedly failed to yield the right of way to the biker and turned in front of him off of Q Avenue. The MIchigan biker tried to stop but was unable and slid into the truck. The biker was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The pick-up driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

I am very sorry to hear about this Michigan motorcycle accident and wish the biker a speedy and complete recovery.  This is an accident that should have never happened.
