Hit and Run Driver Sought For Deadly Motorcycle Accident

Cobb County Police are looking for the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run motorcycle accident on I-75 Saturday that claimed the life of Emanuel R. Mitchell, 31, of Norcross.

The vehicle involved in the accident is a gray or silver 1986 to 1991 model year Porsche 944 [view photo]. Police say the vehicle may have damage to its left front from the collision.

Mitchell was thrown from his Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle Saturday evening when the driver of the Porsche moved into his lane causing a collision, police said. A second driver, Sonni Smith, 23, of Atlanta, told police her vehicle struck Mitchell after the driver of the Porsche made initial contact with his motorcycle. He died at the scene, according to a police spokeswoman.

Smith will not be charged.

Evidence recovered at the crash scene helped investigators to determine the make of the car with the assistance of the manufacturer.

Police are still searching for the driver of the Porsche. Anyone who has any information regarding the accident is urged to contact Cobb County police at 770-499-3987.

Detroit Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A 40 year old biker suffered fatal injuries in a Detroit motorcycle accident last night.  Police report that Rochelle Ringo was travelling on Gratiot when a van turned into her path and caused the accident.  The driver left the scene of this hit and run accident.  Detroit police are following up leads to find the driver.

It am always amazed at the indifference of a person who could be involved in such an accident and leave the scene without knowing if the accident victim will survive.  I certainly hope that the driver is caught and brought to justice.  My thoughts go out to this woman’s family.

The surviving family may have a number of legal rights to pursue, even though the negligent driver has not yet been identified.  This could include claims for funeral expenses, lost income, and the loss of this woman’s companionship.  There are deadlines for filing these claims and it is important to hire a Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer as soon as possible to look into all possible claims.
