Two Michigan Men Killed in Pair of Fatal Motorcycle Accidents

The past ten days have seen two fatal motorcycle accidents in Michigan. The first occurred on October 10 in Bark River Township in the Upper Peninsula, when a 20-year motorcyclist collided with a deer, left the roadway, and struck a tree and fencepost. The second accident involved a Grass Lake man who lost control of his motorcycle and hit a road sign.

In general, motorcycling is a safe and enjoyable hobby. However, it is not without risks. Like any motorist, the motorcyclist must pay constant attention to his or her surroundings. The motorcycle rider is especially vulnerable in the event of an accident – what would be a mere fender-bender in a car could be a catastrophic collision to a motorcyclist.

Car Turns In Front Of Harleys Killing One Rider

Saturday morning, a Lakeville, Minnesota man died and his wife was injured in a collision in Dakota County. The couple were traveling on separate Harleys on Cedar Avenue when a northbound car turned in front of the riders. Presently, the police are still investigating the cause.

As with any highway death, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in an article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed on the same topic. In this case, sorrow for the families of those involved goes out.

With the weather staying warm enough to ride and gas prices staying high more people are driving fuel efficient alternatives. It's important that the following be kept in mind:

1. Yield the right-of-way.

2. Start seeing motorcycles.

3. When on a motorcycle, make sure people see you.

4. When just starting to ride, make sure you have the correct training.

The road is big enough for everyone.

Round Up Of Issues Of Concern

I ran across a couple of articles that I think we all should keep an eye on:

There is a spike in reports of depression along the Gulf.

Steve Lombardi takes a interesting look at preventing falls at work.

The FDA is warning about the drugs used during MRIs.

Medical News warns of eye injuries from laser pointers.

More questions are being raised about medical studies and who is really paying for the results.

Gawker which is worth reading daily had interesting points about hand washing that men wash their hands less and that 10% of people lie about it.

Acne is being looked at as causing suicidal thought in teenagers.

Are street sealers causing motorcycle collisions?

Michigan Motorcycle Accident Lawyer Shares Video – Bike Accidents Are Not Always Caused By The Motorcyclist

Our Michigan motorcycle accident lawyers recently viewed a biker video on You Tube that they would like to share with all motor vehicle drivers.  The short video sends a powerful message and depicts the point that motorcycle accidents are not always caused due to the motorcyclist.  Although the public often thinks that bikers are responsible for motorcycle accidents, statistics show that most Michigan motorcycle accident injuries are caused by the negligence of another driver.  An often overlooked fact is that the other drivers fail to respect or pay attention to motorcycles.
